Keylezz® relies on the proven security technology from LEGIC to replace conventional keys and locking mechanisms with modern, digital technologies.
The challenge: securing furniture in the new police and justice center in Zurich (PJZ)
With the PJZ (“Polizei- und Justizzentrum”) of the canton of Zurich, Switzerland has a new centralized competence center for fighting crime. The PJZ allows the cantonal police, previously spread over 30 locations, to be brought together with law enforcement authorities, police schools, forensic institute and the police and judicial prisons. With the approach of combining all functions in one building, the PJZ is unique in Europe. After completion, the PJZ will have more than 133,000 m² of floor space, more than 2,000 jobs, 241 detention areas and several tens of thousands of pieces of furniture - a gigantic security project.
The PJZ requires a highly secure and very flexible furniture locking system that is easy to use for both users and management. A total of more than 7,400 items of mostly individual furniture must be electronically managed and locked without being connected to the mains power supply or IT network. That is why a decision was made to use a battery-backed offline system – a function supported by the LEGIC Security Platform.
Keylezz's innovative furniture locking system enables users to securely open and manage their furniture via a smartphone app or contactless key cards. The lock is equipped with a unique identification that is configured and managed via the LEGIC Security Platform.
The Solution: LEGIC advant and Master-Token System-Control (MTSC)
A LEGIC CTC4096-MM410 chip card IC supporting the LEGIC advant standard was specified as the basis for the ID card technology. The electronic locks are equipped with a LEGIC security module that communicates with and authorizes the ID cards via RFID. Card configuration and management is carried out via LEGIC's Master Token System Control (MTSC) which enables the PJZ to have autonomous and secure internal control over its smart card inventory.
Although it is an offline system, it must be possible to update authorizations and their withdrawal on a daily basis, and authorizations must also be able to be withdrawn immediately when necessary. Lock information such as usage, log file, battery level and error messages should also be transmitted securely and automatically to the management software and easily evaluated there.
To be able to react flexibly to the changes and expansions of the Keylezz® furniture locking system, the PJZ security team wanted the ability to configure the system themselves and, in addition, access evaluation data via their Siemens SIPORT system. The PJZ security team was therefore equipped with the Keylezz® configuration APP and the Keylezz® Lockmanager OSS configuration.
"We are very satisfied with the Keylezz® furniture locking system and the advice and support and the Keylezz® team. We can be proud of what we have implemented here together,”
Christian Rufer, head of security at PJZ.
