New EU Critical Infrastructure regulations

The EU has introduced the Critical Entities Resilience (CER) Directive to safeguard essential social and economic activities. This directive focuses on securing critical infrastructure against threats like accidents, climate change, cyber-attacks, and terrorism. Similarly, the NIS2 (Cybersecurity Directive) sets a high standard for securing network and information systems across the EU, requiring both digital and physical protection of infrastructure such as data centers.

In Germany, the KRITIS Dachgesetz extends these regulations, requiring operators of critical infrastructure to implement business continuity management, physical security, and crisis management. Non-compliance by October 17, 2024, could lead to fines of up to EUR 20 million, with no transition period for adjustments. This makes quick action on physical security upgrades essential.

LEGIC: Enhancing Critical Infrastructure Security

LEGIC plays a key role in modernizing physical security. Its contactless technology supports secure access control for buildings, vehicles, and storage facilities. Features like multi-factor authentication, encrypted access keys, and uninterrupted operation ensure compliance with CER, NIS2, and KRITIS requirements. In contrast to outdated systems like mechanical locks, LEGIC’s platform offers real-time access management, logging, and both online and offline functionality — ensuring robust protection of critical infrastructure.

This streamlined approach highlights how LEGIC meets the new EU directives with cutting-edge solutions, ready for the challenges of modern infrastructure security.
