LEGIC supports NFC Apple Watch functionalities

Swiss technology provider LEGIC Identsystems Ltd is proud to announce that its SM-4200 reader IC supports standardized reading of NFC data from and to the Apple Watch. The NFC functionality enables the subsequent selective Bluetooth Smart (BLE) pairing between Apple Watch and fitness equipment under Apple GymKit license.

Apple GymKit is an MFi ("Made for iPhone / iPad / iPod") technology licensed by Apple. As a MFi developer, LEGIC supports the fitness equipment manufacturers to realize their applications. After the market introduction of the GymKit-related functionalities with selected customers, LEGIC makes now this game-changing technology available to all participants to Apple’s MFi program with GymKit license that choose LEGICs reader IC SM-4200.

In its effort to be the reliable partner for cutting edge, secure contactless communication, LEGIC is in continuous contact with Apple and will adjust its product offering according to Apple's specifications and licensing options.

Standard NFC functionality is otherwise available by default in all LEGIC's 4000 series reader ICs. Further, LEGIC's SM-6300 SiP (System-in-Package) seamlessly integrates BLE and secure element with NFC, RFID and 27 other electronic components.

LEGIC is the one-stop-shop for players in the contactless identification and credential communication industry to meet market requirements by natively supporting all most relevant communication protocols, such as ISO 15693, ISO 14443 A + B, ISO 18092/NFC, Sony Felica and LEGIC RF standard designed for data integrity.

LEGIC already extended in September 2017 its mobile ID solution from BLE to NFC for Android devices and thus proved its extensive NFC know-how.

Apple, MFi, GymKit and Apple Watch are trademarks of Apple, Inc.
