The acquisition of Sogei by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance in July 2002 marked an new era in the management of the Tax Administration's ICT system.

The acquisition of 100% of Sogei's share capital by the Ministry has made it possible not to break up and squander the enormous wealth of know-how and expertise accumulated by Sogei in over 27 years working for the Italian State and is a clear recognition of the Company as a unique and irreplaceable national resource.

This insourcing operation by the Ministry of Economy and Finance has been a deliberate choice which has the aim of guaranteeing the alignment of the objectives of its tax policies with their ensuing results when they have been enforced.


Corporation Profile:

Staff: Sogei has over 1,600 employees, 60% of whom are graduates in ICT and contingent areas Annual turnover:366 million euro (2005 balance sheet).

Organisation: the company's organisation is divided into three areas with clearly defined functions and operational units:

Clients' Area: This area is responsible for anticipating and responding to all the clients' ICT needs, developing and maintaining software applications, providing service assistance and training as well as technical/ organisational support to the system's users.
Area dedicated to the ICT and operational management of the Tax Administration's IT system Area: This area is responsible for designing and implementing platforms, operating environments and databases for applications and web enabled services. It also provides processing management services, security for on line transactions and oversees the technological know-how essential to driving forward software application production and web enabled services.
Staff Area: This division is responsible for all the functions related to the company's management (administration, cost control and human resources) and internal services (logical security, safety, the corporate information system and logistics).
